HKCAAVQ co-organises FSTE Conference 2019

As an important strategic partner of the Federation for Self-financing Tertiary Education (FSTE) and also in celebration of FSTE 25th anniversary this year, HKCAAVQ co-organised FSTE Conference 2019 with the theme of “Developing Higher Education for Next Decade” on 20 June 2019.  The Conference marked its opening by Professor Peter Yuen, Chairman of FSTE, and Mr Albert Chow, Executive Director of HKCAAVQ.

The keynote speech was delivered by Professor Bjørn Stensaker, Director of the Center for Learning Innovation and Academic Development (LINK), the University of Oslo, also Council Member of HKCAAVQ. In his speech themed “Making educational innovation work – preparing for future teaching and learning modes”, Professor Stensaker shared his insights into the various possibilities for the future of higher education and different pitfalls under the transformation of the higher education sector. He also discussed in his keynote pathways preparing the higher education institutions for future teaching and learning modes. Chairman of FSTE, Professor Peter Yuen, then presented on technology advancement of curriculum design and programme delivery and the impacts on higher education.

Discussion Forum featuring key figures of industry stakeholders was also one of the highlights of the Conference. The forum, which carried the theme of “Manpower Needs For Next Decade From Employers’ Perspectives”, was jointly presented by –

Dr Louis Ma, Director of the School of Continuing and Professional Education (SCOPE) of City University of Hong Kong, was the moderator of the session, in which panelists shared their viewpoints on the manpower demands and expectation on tomorrow’s graduates for the workplace and community, including the desirable graduate attributes, qualities, skillsets as well as the capability to embrace innovation and globalisation in the new digital era. The discussion forum was followed by a series of concurrent sessions, which aimed at exploring new trends in higher education in three aspects: Student Engagement, Technology-enabled Learning and Student Development & Assessment.  

The Anniversary Gala Dinner took place after the Conference, and was well-attended by over 200 guests from the education and training sector.
