Kicking off the series of celebrative initiatives for the 30th anniversary of HKCAAVQ, the Spring Luncheon 2020 was held at Renaissance Harbour View Hotel in Wan Chai on 15 January 2020 with more than 130 distinguished guests attending and showing their support.

At his welcoming remarks, Council Chairman Ir Dr Alex Chan unveiled the upcoming initiatives that HKCAAVQ will be rolling out in celebration of its 30 years’ of achievements and highlighted the future direction to which HKCAAVQ is heading. He recalled that, in less than 20 years, HKCAAVQ has evolved from a modest statutory body in the 1990s, to an established quality assurance body entrusted with the role and responsibility to accredit both academic and vocational programmes. In the past 10 years, the HKCAAVQ’s work in quality assuring training provisions in the vocational and professional education and training (VPET) sector has grown in scale and complexity. At the end of the brief historical account, Dr Chan also expressed his special thanks to the foresight and wisdom of the many pioneers who helped to shape the development of HKCAAVQ and its peculiar role in safeguarding the credibility of the Hong Kong Qualifications Framework (HKQF).

Secretary for Education, Mr Kevin Yeung, as the Principal Guest, delivered a thought-provoking speech to attending guests about the importance of the role and work of HKCAAVQ in supporting the implementation, achievements and latest development of the HKQF. Mr Yeung is pleased to see the close collaborations between the HKCAAVQ and all the relevant stakeholders, from the higher education and various industries alike, in striving for quality and excellence all along, for the betterment of the Hong Kong learners and the society at large. Before closing, he also recorded a vote of thanks to the Council Chairman for his contributions to the government’s advisory taskforce and various committees.

Professor Simon Ho, President of the Hang Seng University of Hong Kong, Guest-of-honor of the Spring Luncheon, addressed the gathering with his congratulations to the HKCAAVQ’s 30th anniversary, and his appreciation of the evolving trends in the application of technology, Artificial Intelligence (AI) in particular, in improving the higher education provision. Professor Ho also shared his insights into what changes are called for in regard to the mindset of various stakeholders in order to make the most of technology for enhanced learning experience of students.

The HKCAAVQ Spring Luncheon 2020 is a special occasion that we gather our collaborating partners and quality assurance counterparts to thank each and every one of them for their invaluable support to the development of HKQF and HKCAAVQ.
